41st Camiguin Lanzones Festival Goes Online

The island Province of Camiguin embraces the new normal as it brings its 41st Lanzones Festival celebration to the online world!
The Province of Camiguin is all set to stage the 2020 Lanzones Festival on October 18-25. But this time, all the excitement happens in the digital space.
Now on its 41styear, the Lanzones Festival has been a hallmark event in the Philippines every October. With all of their abundance in arts, heritage, culture, food, natural wonders and of course, its sweet lanzones, Camiguin should have been THE island to be at this time of the year.
However, Covid-19 halted all the grand plans for the 2020 celebration. With restricted movements of people and discouraged mass gatherings, staging it as spectacular as it used to be is something that everyone will surely miss this time.
Despite these challenges, the Province of Camiguin is keeping its time-honoured tradition of celebrating the bounty of the lanzones harvest in the digital space. All of the online activities will be held on www.facebook.com/lanzonesfestival.
Raking in the hype this year is the Buwahan TikTok Challenge where solo, duo and family tiktokers show-off how to safely celebrate the festival at home. A first for Camiguin, the Aggama Ki Ta Paksoy Design Competition aims to bring fresh and contemporary expressions of the traditional wear called paksoy.
Shutterbugs also get a chance to share their shots in the Handurawan Online Photo Contest. On the other hand, its vlogging competition brings new and hardly told stories of the island in the YouTube space. Artsy students also get to exhibit their digistrokes in the Digital Cover Poster Design Competition.
LGUs also battle it out in a Lanzones Festival themed town hall dress-up contest using old, upcycled decors. Another first is the Camiguin Foodscapes brandishing the island’s rich culinary heritage.
Of course, Lanzones Festival will never be complete without the real sweet lanzones! Starting October 19, customers can buy fresh picks along with other Camiguin products such as delicious delicacies and handicrafts. On October 24, log on to the Facebook page of Lanzones Festival for a special LIVE selling of all these products.
In partnership with the Department of Tourism Region 10, lanzones lovers in Cagayan de Oro and nearby towns may also visit the DOT Office in Limketkai Complex for a 3-day on-site sale. This will run on October 22-24.
