The Philippines is known for many things wonderful & we aren’t shy about celebrating it. From the religious to cultural & from crafts to harvests — name it, we rejoice it! And nowhere is a humble mango given so much revelry than at Dinamulag Festival in Iba, Zambales!
Well, why not when the Guinness Book of World Records & the Department of Agriculture list it as the sweetest mango in the world, at least of its kind, the Sweet Elena carabao mango variety. Let’s just say, it’s the rock star of all mango harvests in the Philippines.
Dinamulag Festival: That Party on the Sweet Side
Since 1999, this small coastal town of Iba draws the party-feeling crowd at the annual Dinamulag Festival. It is at this time when its juiciest mangoes steal the show. This year, the Zambaleños found the best excuse to rev-up the province just before the season of lent.
It runs for 2 weeks with back-to-back fun activities. There are agri-tourism fairs & marching band exhibitions. Then there’s sand sculpting competition as well as other talent search shows. Also, various athletics are up for energy pops like cycling & zumba.
But what’s a festival without the search for the prettiest lass in the province, right? Hang on in tight because their bevy of beauties takes those slow-mo turns quite well too. Leading up to the highlight days, Sambaliwanag or the float parade lights the town of Iba in its expression of art in motion.
And just like any other festivals in the country, the most anticipated event is always the street dancing competition. Garbed in the psychedelics of mango shades, every contingent from all over Zambales battle it out for the Zambayle grand prize.
Prepare for awesomeness because they sure know how to kick up their heels! From the antics of the usual festival street struts to surprise acrobatics, they’re truly delightful to watch. And as if its enough, let the showdown floor you with the magic of costume changes, props & light effects.
