Every mid-October, Sagingan Festival showcases what Tubod, the capital town of Lanao del Norte offers. From farm-fresh produce & delectable goodies to handicrafts & dances, everything goes all out for a week. But above all, it celebrates the bounty of its harvests, cultural traditions & the greatness of its people.
Lanao del Norte is a banana-growing province & the town of Tubod is one of its biggest producers. But unknown to many, Tubod yields 30 amazing varieties of banana! And with this abundance, it is but fitting to celebrate the bounty of its land & the fruits of its peopleโs labor.
Hugyaw, Sayaw, Tagbaw! Kini ang Sagingan Festival!
Revel, Dance & Be Excessively Pleased — Tubodnonsโ truly lived up to its festival theme as they rocked the town with excitement. Top it off with the townโs commemoration of its founding anniversary, coming here was surely a double treat of amazing fun.
This weeklong festivity filled the town with so much going-ons. There was the annual booth competition participated by all the barangays & local government agencies. This exposition showcased their best artistic presentations of their banana produce as well as other products like handicrafts.
Then thereโs the much-awaited Mutya ng Tubod where their prettiest lasses in a pageant of grace, style & wit sashayed down the ramp. However, it wasn’t only about the usual beauty contest that we know of. It was also about creative ensembles of banana raw materials like processed fibers & leaves turned into creative fashion expressions.
In addition, parties were thrown here & there, bringing in some of the best partyphiles from other cities. Movie & sports celebrities even graced some of the events. Other happenings like folk dances, hip-hop & ballroom filled all venues at the Sagingan Festival with a cheering crowd.

But among all other events, the street dancing & showdown competition was the most anticipated crowd-drawing spectacle. Showcasing the various cultural influences of the town, the streets of Tubod flooded with unimaginable colors & music.
Strikingly, whatโs wonderful about Sagingan Festival is its attempt to curate its own set of street dancing movements & music.
These carefully studied dance steps & music specific to the street dancing is a first in all of Mindanao festivals. All these elements are creatively woven into a narrative inspired from a local folktale. It circles around the story of the stolen banana heart, a plague & the redemption by mythical fairies & heroes.
While Sagingan Festival is already a force to look out for in the province-wide festival, it still is making its way into joining the roll of must-experience festivals in the country. But with its steadfast commitment to making it more exciting, it surely holds a bright promise. Come to Sagingan Festival because nowhere else is this humble banana given so much revelry than here.
