DIY Khmer Food and Cocktails | Fun Activities to Do in Siem Reap

Over the years, Cambodia has earned recognition not only for its medieval temple ruins but also for its exciting cuisine and sure-slug street parties. After days of dizzying temple hangovers, why not get your hands busy on what makes Siem Reap also famous about—food and party!

Khmer Cuisine Cooking Class
While there are quite a number of shops offering quick Khmer cooking classes, Le Tigre de Papier is the most reputable in Siem Reap. It is one of the pioneers and the longest running cooking classes crafted for tourists who may not have enough time but would love to experience a Khmer degustation.

For $14 USD, you get to learn how to prepare a traditional Khmer appetizer, a main dish and a simple dessert. It is a group activity but each participant gets the time to be coached individually by Channy Meas, Le Tigre de Papier’s in-house chef. The activity runs for about 3 hours from market tour, lectures, prep, cooking and serving.

Le Tigre de Papier runs 3 classes per day and walk-ins are welcome as long as you come at least 1 hour before the class. It is a great way to enjoy an authentic Cambodian meal—you do it yourself.

The Khmer concoction is a unique mix of any of those good old sugary or bitter spirits and the traditional Cambodian herbs and spices. You may also blend in the complex taste of its rice-infused wines popularly known as sombai.

Asana or the wooden house sits in one of the quiet alleys of Pub Street. While it started out as the first cocktail bar in town, it has later expanded into becoming the only school of Khmer cocktails much sought after by partyphiles, mixologist-wannabees and those who just want to have new and exciting experience of the local culture. Asana is also one of the best places to enjoy your after-dark alcohol spanks in a less amped ambience.
