Movenpick : Wingdings of Daydreams

Have you ever enjoyed a vacation where you came in more than just a tourist in flip-flops and floral shirts? I just did! The ultra-chic Mövenpick Hotel in Mactan Island, Cebu recently gave away generous discounts on room tariffs. But it is more meaningful to know that they are donating a huge percentage of what you paid to the victims of the super typhoon Yolanda. Certainly, this was a great social responsibility effort tied to a genius marketing strategy.

I am always on travel for work and it was just an opportune time to take a step back and make a personal and indulgent vacation. The decision to choose Mövenpick was not a mindless extravagance. I got to spend a wonderful guilt-free holiday even on the hardest trying times.

Mövenpick Hotel prominently rises along the finest share of beachlines in Mactan Island. Its Cebu property belongs to a larger international chain of hotels, resorts and cruisers. Proud of its world-famous passionate service and awesome culinary treats, Mövenpick brings to the country an upscale holiday experience but grounded on the warmth of Filipino hospitality.

It is not hard to fall in love with the Philippines and many have chosen to live here. On a separate exclusive tower is Mövenpick Residences, its high-rise, furnished resort-residential property reserved for those who prefer to live that sprightly lifestyle by the beach. Its flexible investment allows you to own a privileged home and the all-year round vibrancy of Philippine tropical living.

Mövenpick delighted its guests when it reopened in December 2012. Its refreshing comeback puts the sparkle in this side of Mactan. While it takes pride of its long history of Swiss service, its inspiration for its Philippine resort was taken from the daydream colors of the Mediterranean.

Whitewashed yet radiant, crisp yet evocative, its interpretation of contemporary coastal styles is a showcase of simple forms and breeze through functions. The myriad of warm earth tones like alabaster, teal, olives and tan gently blend with airy spaces and grounded furnishings. Its lobby is an impressive steal and it certainly prepares its guests of that sun-kissed holiday ahead.

Its 245 guest rooms evoke different characters, from playfully dainty to exquisitely sophisticated. The subtle play of natural light and changing shades create a dramatic feel inside. Each room has its own veranda that looks out to the expansive view of the ocean and Hilutungan Channel. The bathrooms are walled with deep blue mosaic tiles and each has its own Jacuzzi for your after-sun bubble pleasures. Laden with beveled decorative mirror and toiletries from the House of Chopard speak of its posh taste for fine en-suite provisions.

Let your cares drift away and head to its white swathe of beach. Enjoy a windswept walk on its soft sand or afloat on the turquoise water. Laze under its parasols and savor the joy of momentary nothingness.

As the west starts to harbor the sun, the dramatic changes begin as its smooth white surfaces become textured with colors. The pool’s shimmering blue by daytime chameleons into soothing streaks of different colors from the lighted chairs that look like floating lanterns.

At night, Mövenpick brightens even more as Ibiza Beach Club becomes the epicenter of swanky beach party. Inspired by one of the world’s hottest party islands, in-house guests and Cebu’s finest partyphiles hole up here for a night of pulsating house music and perfect snug booze. I lost count after my third swig. Truly, Ibiza epitomizes that bacchanalian celebration!

Too much partying at Ibiza had my head on a haze the next day. But the early morning yoga class by the offshore garden did the quick fix. Those who wish to take it to further indulgence, the Mövenpick Spa is pampering at its best.

Cebu is known for its food flare. But when Cebuano creativity mixes with Mövenpick’s culinary laurels, you are certain to be served with outstanding intercontinental choices.

The Sails at the main hall offers themed lunch and dinner buffets. For guests who just wish to lounge or hold private small meetings, the Forum is a chic venue. Ibiza Beach Club, which opens shortly before sunset is a gustatory spot for Brazilian churrasco and Spanish tapas.

I am hypercritical when it comes to customer service because it is what matters most to me. Beyond the splendor of its architectural fashion and voguish Mediterranean ambience, Mövenpick’s guest service is overwhelmingly pleasant. From the top-rank managers to the housekeepers, everyone is consistently cheerful, sincere and engaging. In my short stay I have made friends and I am looking forward to seeing them again.

It is truly wonderful to have a carefree travel, someplace where you are not chasing for solutions. A time and space that is restorative. In a place called Mövenpick.
