Love at First Sight: Marcia Adams’ Restaurant

This universal phenomenon of love at first sight struck me when I stepped into Marcia Adams’ Restaurant. It suddenly changed my description of Tagaytay and redefined the phrases “relaxed ambience”, “good food” and “charming people”.
Tagaytay City’s landscape has changed over the years. Today, high-rise buildings, hotels, power lines and restaurants have crowded this small city that once boasted of serenity & cool weather. But some have managed to keep this promise of blissful retreat & one of them is Marcia Adams’ Restaurant.

Many who have visited this place describe it as the “Little Tuscany” and true enough, stepping into Marcia Adams’ is like being transported into that quaint Italian town. It has the panoramic view of the sun setting on the vast fields & rolling hills. It is a like a sunflower basking under the Tagaytay sun—bright, breezy and inviting. Distinctively, it is also far from the blinking neon marquees of the city, giving each visitor that different serene highland experience.
Marcia Adams’ is tucked in the middle of a wild garden of herbs & local blooms. Visitors are greeted by the beautiful sunshine streaking from the gentle canopy of flowering vines along its gently sloping stone pavement. Its unassuming splendor is every second exciting. The restaurant, which is Tuscan-inspired marks the distinctive character of the place. It is built with stones and textured walls that keep the cool temperature inside. The dining hall is richly filled with heavy wooden pieces, chandeliers, tapestries & wrought-iron materials. Marcia Adams’ Restaurant is every inch charming and captivating from the ceramic tiled floor, to the high ceiling supported by wooden beams and to the stained glass windows.

Mediterranean flavors are what the gracious hosts Neil & Marcia can offer and are presented simply but so rich to the palate. Its selective menu does not have too many confusing choices. It only offers what may be the stars of Mediterranean cuisine like the classic Shish Kebabs served with Couscous, Greek Octopus Stew, Fish Souvlaki, Grilled Aromatic Pork, Ai Funghi & Spanish Chicken Casserole among others. Every culinary region is represented with a delightful meal paired with your choice of best ale, wine or the hosts’ specially concocted Ginger Beer. Price ranges from P700-P900++ that already includes the appetizer, main course and to-die-for dessert like the Panna Cota with Lemon Sauce.

Beyond the beauty of the place and the richness of the flavors, what most visitors remember about this restaurant is the warmth of the couple, Neil and Marcia. During lean days, Neil is there to welcome guests by the blue & yellow painted wooden gate or sometimes they walk you up when you leave the place. It is always a delightful feeling when the owners engage you in a once-in-a-while chat as you enjoy your food. Now, that is what you call superb customer service.
It was my last catch-up activity for summer and it was truly an awesome experience.

How to Get There
Tagaytay City is accessible only by land whether coming from Laguna, Cavite or Batangas. Marcia Adams is father away from the glitzy part of Tagaytay towards the Alfonso, Cavite direction. Just on the border where there is a huge arc topped with fruit sculptures, turn right. About 100 meters, to your right side is the never-to-be-missed gate painted with yellow & blue.
