Camsur Adrenaline Challenge

The Province of Camarines Sur has taken a great leap in the tourism circuit in the Philippines. This once quiescent province in the Bicolandia is now taking its name to the extreme, making it a distinct destination for adventure.

Camsur, as it is better known is a province in South Luzon Region. Its busy domestic airport in the provincial capital in Pili is at the forefront of managing its tourism traffic full of international backpackers & local weekend tourists. People come here for so many reasons. Whether you like to walk on the caressing powdery white sand beaches, muscle the intense outdoor adventure or take a religious retreat & explore the culinary wonders, Camsur has these to offer.

Living in Naga, the Province’s commercial hub is like existing in a small city but with the benefits of those you find in glitzy big ones. Naga & Pili, being the anchors of development have dramatically changed its business landscape by rooting on a simple formula: Exciting Adventures + Good Finds – Worry = Fun Camsur!

Adrenaline-Packed Fun

Camsur has become synonymous to Wakeboarding. The brilliant idea of setting up the Camsur Waterports Complex (CWC) in Pili, does the biggest pull in attracting people worldwide. The complex boasts of beginner to extreme wakeboarding, wakeskating & waterskiing tracks. I am not really a personal fan of this sport but when I tried it, I must say boarding by the cable was a swift shift of fun paradigm. CWC also offers a skateboard paradise for adrenaline junkies who love to roll, hop & flip on their boards in specially made extreme rink. If you can’t get enough of it, another feature in these hectares of fun land is the aqua park where kids & adults balance, slide & play in a maze made of huge inflatables. Their swimming pool is also perfect either for cardio-busting lapses or just wallowing over cold fruit shake. In CWC, getting wet is not an option.

Exciting Finds & Must-Do’s

Naga City offers another convenience. Shopping centers both local & national chains like Robinson’s & SM provide the same malling experience in other big cities. The abundance of exquisite coffee shops & rich-feel restaurants are another amazing finds. Honestly, I am guilty to say that there’s after-all more to than just Bicol Express & Laing in this place (but of course, you haven’t traveled to Bicol if you haven’t sampled these local culinary treasures).

Good bargains on local handicrafts & food products can’t be missed because they are almost everywhere in Naga. Traveling here either for business or leisure is easy with national banks, hotels & service companies sprawling in the city’s commercial district. WIFI zones are not hard to find, so Naga gets you connected to the world at any time.

The Basilica of Penafrancia is another must-see experience. This is where the “Ina” or Nuestra Senora de Penafrancia, Bicol’s patroness is enshrined. Every September, this huge Marian festival in honor of Her draws crowd of devout Catholics around the world.

Bicol is a food destination & they have earned the reputation as the home of one of the country’s excellent Philippine cuisine. They take pride in their Bicol Express & Laing, which have already taken variations including a Laing Pizza. Pili nuts are also one of its produce & a perfect travel present, be it raw nut, caramelized or infused in popular pastries. Many have said that if you have married a Bicolana, you’re sure to claim of the saying “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach”!

Bicolandia’s Warmth

The greatest asset of Camsur is its people. Getting a smile or a nod of hello here is never a huddle. Taxi & tricycle drivers are courteous (read: not over-pricing). Even simple street-sweepers offer a cheerful “maray na aga” (good morning). Traveling in Camsur is hassle-free. Even some of their remotest island gems seem to be reachable with happy people willing to show you the best way.

Not only does Bicol present beautiful ladies to national beauty pageants, they also boast of multi-awarded local government officials especially the Mayor of Naga City. This Province has an active participation in national governance with many elected & appointed officials in top posts.

This simple formula of fun has undoubtedly taken them somewhere good & that is to bring Camsur to the world. For the longest time, it has been a sleeping gem & now it is a rising star by providing visitors a distinct travel experience.

If you’re not in Camsur, you should be!
